Abstract: The work presents a way of teaching and learning Optics very attractive, by combining classic and modern ideas, working mode and technologies, classical lenses and modern products. Part I presents the following modern contexts: optical-bench, laser, Fresnel biprism and mirror, Newton’s rings apparatus, mercury vapor high pressure lamp, Michelson Interferometer. Part II shows classical working modes in the modern context. The light interference is produced on the classical way by dividing up the wave-front of a modern beam of light obtained by using a laser. The Fresnel mirror and the biprism are used to divide up the wave-front. Part III describes the ways to accomplish the following tasks: The first is to calculate the wavelength of light using the interference patterns and the radii of the interference rings, obtained when the monochromatic light interferes on the thin film of the air, which is between the slightly convex lens and a plate plane glass in the Newton’s rings apparatus. The second is to calculate the wavelength by displacing one mirror using the micrometer screw in the Michelson Interferometer. Part IV shows the free educational software recomended by the authors of this work.
