Abstract:
We present a short general introduction into the field of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) research, summarizing the past and the present status. We give an ensemble view of the GRBs observations to date, both in the prompt emission phase as well as in the afterglow phase, and a brief primer into the theory, mainly in the frame-work of the fireball model.
