Abstract:
The Black Sea is a nearly enclosed ocean basin, exhibiting many features common with larger ocean basins. Lacking an open boundary and having a limited exchange with sources of fresh and salt water, this basin is an ideal laboratory for developing and evaluating numerical circulation models. Using the Princeton Ocean Model, the scientists from two Romanian institutes and scientists from Ukraine and Bulgaria, found the proper equations for this unique and interesting sea basin. The new approach has the advantages of both diagnostic models (incorporation of experimental data) and prognostic models (producing hydrodynamical adjustment and filtered fields). In this paper we will present the results of the POM model for the North Western part of the Black Sea (currents speed, salinity, temperature)and also, we try to demonstrate that the oceanographic forecast is related with direct observations.
