Abstract:
Within the Standard Model (SM) of the Elementary Particle Physics, the conservation of lepton flavour separately for each family has no strong theoretical support, albeit the violation of the lepton flavour is not predicted either. Beyond the SM, lepton flavour violation (LFV) may occur in some supersymmetric (SUSY) extensions. Experimental data seem to probe the neutrino oscillations and this necessarily implies the violation of the lepton flavour symmetry. We have looked for lepton flavour violating events (eμ, eτ, μτ) that can be produced in e+/e- interactions. The available experimental data collected by the L3 detection system at LEP-CERN in the energy range from 189 GeV to 210 GeV were used. Monte Carlo events simulated with the help of the KK2f (for e+ + e- → μ+ + μ- and e+ + e- → τ+ + τ- processes) and BHWIDE (for Bhabha processes e+ + e- → e+ + e-) generators were used in the analysis. Preselection and selection cuts were designed and imposed on the signal and background events. The influence of these cuts is analyzed. The signal to noise ratio, after applying all the cuts, is presented for the three studied channels. Preliminary results of the lepton flavour violation cross-section for the eμ, eτ, μτ channels are included.
