Abstract: The paper reports the Romanian contribution to the FP7 project “Creative Little Scientists” [1], and provides radiography on the assessment of science learning at pre-school and primary school level. The main research questions for this study target: priority actions in science learning assessment; methods for the assessment of science learning; methods used by teachers to encourage children learning; purposes in pupils’ assessment; differences in assessment of science and mathematics learning. These questions are addressed to pre-school and primary school teachers in nine European countries.
To clarify these questions in Romania, a national web-based survey was organized between 20.05.2012 and 30.06.2012. Over this period of time, 270 Romanian teachers enrolled to the survey, while only 258 answered all questions.
This survey is based on the conclusions of two previous reports delivered in the Creative Little Scientists Project: the “Conceptual Framework” and the “List of Mapping and Comparison factors”, which identified key dimensions pertinent to the role of creativity in early science and mathematics. The limitations and the implications of this research are highlighted in the paper.
The authors acknowledge the financial support received from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under area of activity `Research and Coordination Actions on new methods in science education` (grant agreement no. 289081), project “Creative Little Scientists: Enabling Creativity through Science and Mathematics in Preschool and First Years of Primary Education”.
