Abstract:
Oil Terminal occupies a strategic position in the Black Sea area, being the largest operator for oil products. For many years, the company has expanded in order to increase the storage capacities, by developing floating top tanks in the North 1 and 2 areas. Later, there was developed a newer storage area in the port of Constanta.Due to the reduction of operation activities in the North 2 area, the platform is operating at very low capacity. Until recently, there were no activities initiated for developing renewable energy projects within the company. In the past two years, the company gained interest in the development of solutions for producing electrical and/or thermal energy from renewable energy sources.The study consisted in the development of a combined heat and power system for the production of electricity and heat. For this, there were combined the high efficiency of the Stirling engine, the high collecting surface of parabolic trough concentrators and the low temperature working conditions of the Organic Rankine Cycle turbines.Taking into account the estimated potential of the solar irradiation in the Constanta region, the estimated production capacity of such a system was calculated to approximately 424220 kWe pear year, having the possibility to use the energy internally and to decrease the operating costs of the company, or to export the energy into the national grid for profit.
