Abstract:
We made an experimental study of critical opalescence phenomenon for solutions of polystyrene (with molecular weight 2.8 105 and polydispersity degree 1.3) in cyclohexan for the domain of concentration 2-5 10-3 g/cm-3. We measured the critical temperature for each solution and by its dependence on concentration we obtained the critical concentration. It was verified that the Debye equation, which gives the dependence of the intensity of the scattered light on the diffusion angle, is satisfied. The dimensions of the molecules obtained from the asymmetry of the critical opalescence corresponds with those obtained from viscometry measurements. References: 1. P. Debye, J. Chem.
