Abstract:
The problem of neutrino oscillation is considered in the plane wave formalism, as well as in the full wave packet quantum mechanics language. It is shown that Lorentz invariance implies that in general, flavour neutrinos in oscillation experiments are superpositions of massive neutrinos with different energies and different momenta. The hypothesis of threefold-maximal neutrino mixing is investigated and the implications on the coherence of the states is analysed.
