Abstract:
n the last years, the study of würtzite-type materials such as, ZnO, GaN, AlN and InN has known a large development due to their prospective application in electronics. In this context, the properties of the energy spectrum of the conduction electron and the effects of the electron-phonon interaction are of particularly interest[1]. However, unlike the case of optically isotropic semiconductors such as, GaAs, GaP, AlAs, InAs, for the würtzite-type materials, the anisotropy must be considered. By taking into account all the sources of the anisotropy into the problem, the energy density of a system of optical phonons, electromagnetic field and free charges is derived in a self consistent manner. The various contributing terms to the energy density, allowing the analysis of different topics such as: the polariton problem, the plasmon problem, the plasmon-optical phonon modes problem and, the free or bound polaron problem, are discussed.
