Abstract: Despite the officialy declared focus changes in teaching and assessment, towards general and specific competencies, the assesment and evaluation in Romanian educational system is still fited on an information aqusition based curriculum. The main situation is present in preuniversitary level teaching physics. Since 2005 Romania is affiliated to the international assesment programs PISA and TIMSS and its results in comparison with those of EU countrys’ results are far from being satisfactory. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the clasic evaluation system, versus OECD paradigm in assesment and evaluation. It is analysed the so called „competences centered evaluation” in Romanian official curricular documents and practice, versus OECD assessment phylosophy. From point of view of teaching and learning physics, the evaluative methods didn’t cover the actional aspects of physics specific experimental methods. PISA and TIMSS evaluation is poor in methods capable to evaluate the experimental aspects. We try to propose an alternative method in order to cover the gap between clasical and modern evaluation by using the experimental method.
