Abstract:
The sensitivity of the prompt fission neutron spectrum to different model parameters is studied for the case of 238U(n,f) at more incident neutron energies where experimental data exist. The prompt neutron spectrum is provided by an improved version of the “most probable fragmentation” approach. The influence on the spectrum shape of different model improvements such as a new form of the residual temperature distribution of fragments and the inclusion of the scission neutron contribution is studied. Also the spectrum sensitivity to different optical model parameterizations used to calculate the compound nucleus cross-section of the inverse process as well as to a 10% variation of average values of model parameters (energy release, total kinetic energy of fragments, average neutron separation energy from fission fragments) is investigated.
