Abstract:
Electro-optical properties of the systems which include nematic liquid crystals as active materials depend on the anchoring properties of the molecules on the surface. In the case of the asymmetric systems, the geometry of the polymeric surface may decisively influence the cell functioning parameters. The presence of some cavities on the surface of the cell determinates the local arrangement of the nematic director. We have been investigated the anchoring properties of the K15 (5CB) liquid crystal using FTIR spectroscopy and the result were compared with Monte Carlo simulation.
