Abstract:
Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) can image spatial variations in highly scattering optical media. Using a double serial approach for laser illumination and light detection, we built an inexpensive continuous-wave DOT system with a minimal number of components, namely: 2 laser diode sources (at 785 nm and 830 nm), one PC, an acquisition board, two high precision translation tables, one SiPD detector, a transimpedance amplifier and two lock-in amplifiers, which can acquire 128 independent measurements in less than 6 seconds. For a higher resolution in tissue reconstruction, the number of the optical fibres in the measuring head can be increased at the expense of a higher acquisition time.
