Abstract:
The roumanian nivometeorological program (snow and avalanche hazard) was started in february 2004 in cooperation with "Centre d’Etudes de la Neige" Météo-France from Grenoble. Two relevant mountain regions have been monitorized: Bucegi and Fagaras Mountains. Daily nivometeorological bulletins and warnings are made since january 2005; they include a meteorological forecast, description of present and future snow structure and evolution, as well as the estimation of avalanche risk level, in accordance with the european avalanche danger scale. The study examines the estimated avalanche risk variations, depending on the altitude, massif, meteorological conditions and slope exposure, together with the reported avalanche cases in the monitorized area.
