Protons irradiation influence on the physical properties of photovoltaic cells based on CdS/CdTe heterojunction

Abstract:
CdS/CdTe heterojunction photovoltaic cells were prepared on optical glass substrates covered with a thin layer of ITO. CdS and CdTe thin films were deposited in a “superstrate” configuration, by thermal evaporation. The parameters of the proton beam used for the irradiation of the samples were: energy of 3 MeV and a fluency of 10^14 particles/cm^2. For all prepared structures, both the spectral and the integral photovoltaic response in standard AM1.5 conditions was determined before and after irradiation. The observed differences were explained in terms of structural defects introduced by irradiation.
