Abstract:
As it is known, Jamin interferometer was initially designed for gas studies. By the beam separation at the incidence surface of a plane- parallel glass block, two parallel light beams are obtained (the distance between them is: s = d sin?? / (n2 ?V sin2??)1/2, where: d ?V the block thickness, n ?V the refractive index, ?? - the incidence angle). A second identical glass block is parallel disposed in the way of the two beams, so that in the end four light beams are obtained. By rotating one of these blocks, horizontal or vertical fringes could be obtained, plus that any modification in the substance?¦s parameters (substance which is introduced in one of the interferometer?¦s arms) could lead to fringes moves that allow us to find out many information about the substance (liquid or gas). The aim of this work is to reveal the advantages and disadvantages of this system, and thus to increase the applicability area for this kind of interferometer. An application regarding small concentration variations and phenomena involved at the interface between two unmiscible liquids are also described.
