Comparing Quantum and Classical Radiation Reaction

Abstract:
For an electron in an intense plane-wave laser field, the expectation value of the final momentum is computed. Photon emission is described perturbatively, unlike the coupling to the driving field, treated exactly in the Furry picture. The results are compared to the perturbative expansion of the solution of the classical Landau-Lifshitz equation, for various laser pulses and initial electron momenta. In describing the different regimes, one also looks at the total nonlinear Compton scattering probability. When its tree-level approximation surpasses unity, higher order Feynman
diagrams are to be taken into account.
