Abstract:
The living matter constitutes an invaluable source of ingenious and optimal solutions to a large variety of biological structures and functions the biosystems are endowed with. These solutions are the direct consequences of the fight for survival (i.e., a competition for resources: food, water, air and space) and natural selection during the entire evolution of life on Earth. This work presents and comments some examples of such surprising optimal solutions adopted by the living beings. At the same time, the transfer opportunity of these solutions, from living matter to the technologies/engineering is discussed, too. This transfer will certainly offer a new perspective to future technologies, which are claimed to be cheaper, more efficient, and ecological (i.e., in a perfect harmony with the Biosphere).
