Abstract:
There is no doubt that, in the recent decades, climate changes have occurred. In order to measure their impact, the Earth-Atmosphere radiative budget has to be known and more specifically the cooling rates. The numerical models take a substantial part in this measurement. The present study focuses on testing the computer software package MODTRAN, which is a computationally rigorous radiation transfer algorithm that is used to model the spectral absortion, transmission, emission and scattering characteristics of the atmosphere. The results obtained for the atmospheric radiative fluxes (calculated in the presence of aerosols only, in the presence of clouds only and for the presence of both clouds and aerosols) were compared with the data determined from the CL-31 Ceilometer which is located at the Atmosphere and Earth Department of Faculty of Physics, at Măgurele. As a first conclusion, it was observed that similar values for the cooling rates during the first period of the analyzed days.
