Abstract:
This paper investigates the absorption processes of the microwave radiation by metal wires and the dependence between the quantity of vaporized and ionized metal and different microwave powers. The metallic plasma generator experimental model consists of a commercial source (magnetron) having the 2.45 GHz frequency at 800 W microwave power and a cylindrical cavity. Inside the cylindrical cavity metallic wires are placed. The metallic wires having 0.5 mm diameter are directly vaporized and ionized in interaction with the microwave field from the cylindrical cavity. In order to study the dependence between the metallic wire absorption process and the electromagnetic radiation propagation we used two cylindrical cavities having the TM010 and TM011 propagation modes. Moreover, we investigate the possibility of using multi-wire metals in the vaporization and ionization processes, which would lead to a better microwave metal absorption. The experiment was conducted in air at normal atmospheric pressure and room temperature.
