Abstract:
Analysis of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) of HALO type which are directed towards the Earth allows us a better understanding of their geoeffectivity. We analyzed two interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) recorded by ACE space mission on May 4, 1998 and on October 30, 2003. Tracking back these events, we identified coronal mass ejections observed at the Sun which may be the initial events. In order to decide which event is one that we are interested in from the number of candidates CME at the Sun, we calculate their travel time from the Sun to ACE space mission using the calculation model given by Lindsay et al. (1999), which takes into account the speed of the ICME estimated from the initial velocity of the CME associated and the sphere model of a CME in order to obtain the real speed travel into the interplanetary space and weigh it with the registered data by ACE. The results of these two methods will be compared and analyzed, identifying events whose parameters can be used better in subsequent correlation CME - ICME - geomagnetic storms chain.
