Abstract:
Embedded metallic nanoparticles into a macromolecule framework determine specific properties useful for potential applications as new electronic devices and sensors. This preliminary investigation deals about electrical behaviour of heavily enriched polyethylene (PET) with Ag nanopowder. The metallic particles were embedded in the bulk at the liquid phase transition of the host, being deposited as a planar layer on Cu substrate. The conduction instability of as prepared samples indicated the formation of temporary filaments turning after electroforming into a stable network. These features show a commuting process between two unstable states of low and high impedance. After the samples electroforming a stable current-voltage characteristics were obtained with a weak hysteresis. Space charge limited conduction was found, being supported by an exponential distribution of trap states. UV-Vis spectrometry was used for the determination of the optical transitions and for the thickness measurements of pure PET layer using the reflectance interference pattern.
