Abstract:
The aim of this study is to investigate theoretically the elastic stimulation of phase transition in particle chains configured by a double well potential. The both ends of the chain are considered rigid. The inter-particle potential is built by two parabola, smooth coupled, with equilibrium positions at 2.1A and 1.4A. The corresponding minima are assumed at 0.6eV and 1.0eV. The simulations are based of molecular dynamic approach. A sinus pulse deformation applied at one end of an initial homogeneous chain can trigger locally transitions between two phases of different particle densities. This process was studied in order to associate the pulse parameters (amplitude and period) to phase transition behaviour along the chain. The propagation of the longitudinal waves generate complex pattern as the result of scattering and interference at the interfaces of local phases and at the both rigid ends of the chain. The time dependency of the ratio between the two phases found along the chain are related to the amplitude and period of the excitation pulse. This investigation belongs to the field of external controlled configuration of nano-systems.
