Abstract:
Four refineries around Ploiesti – Petrobrazi, Petrotel, Astra Romana and Vega – as well as the busy traffic within the town represent the main pollution factors, by releasing in the air significant amounts of chemicals, gases, hydrocarbon not burned, suspended or depositable powders that influence the quality of the air. Ploiesti and the surrounding villages were chosen along other busy areas of the country, to achieve an automatic network to monitor the quality of the air, according to EU requirements. The network includes 6 online monitoring stations in Ploiesti area. These stations are operational since November 2007. The study was achieved in cooperation with the Environment Safety National Agency Prahova branch, which provided the measurements related to the concentration of the polluting substances in various monitoring stations placed in Ploiesti. The analyses and interpretation were performed by using “Hysplit4 ARL” (Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory Model, Air Resources Laboratory), a web – based application used to access and display the weather data. The wavelet method was also applied in order to identify quasi-periodic components in the analyzed time series.
