Abstract:
Seismology is an active research field and the associated possible advances could have huge social and economic implications. Education related to this scientific field is part of the adaptation of our society to these natural phenomena which could result in large disasters. The goal of this thesis is to create and present a course about seismology for high school students. It is designed to be taught during one year to the students from high schools with a real profile. The main topics included in the course are related to continental drift and its mechanisms, the internal structure of the Earth, the principle of the seismometer, intensity and magnitude of the earthquakes, earthquakes prediction. Didactical aspects and evaluation methods are presented. It is expected that the course will improve the student's knowledge related to seismology and will increase their interest on Earth sciences.
