Abstract:
A very recent study of the USA scientists states that the climate changes are already affecting the air conditions in this country. The goal of this study is to investigate the properties of the extreme meteorological/climatic events related to temperature, precipitation and snow amount, recorded in the last century in the eastern part of the USA. Some of the main causes for weather and climate variations over eastern USA are presented, including the Arctic Oscillation, the North Atlantic Oscillation, the El Nino Southern Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation. The stationary and non-stationary quasi-periodic components are identified in the temperature, precipitation and snow amount time series using the wavelet method. Possible climate modes associated to the quasi-periodic components are indicated.
