Abstract:
In the context of the global warming of the last decades, which could induces climate changes with huge social and economic impacts, "Climate Variability" represents a research topic of huge interest for scientist, but also a field of large interest for non-scientists. The goal of the study is to create and present a course about climate variability for high school students. A large amount of information is related to didactical aspects related to the learning methods, to the stimulation of the critical thinking, to the evaluation procedures and instruments, to models for abilities development. The main topics included in the course are related to key questions about climate change, like: the main factors controlling the climate, the greenhouse gas effect, the cause of the global warming, the glacial and interglacial periods, the climate projections for the future, extreme climate events. It is expected that the course will improve the student's knowledge about climate variability and will increase their responsibility regarding the human influence on climate.
