Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to show the number of hours allocated for Mathematics and Natural Sciences curriculum area in Romanian primary education. The hypothesis from which I started in this research was to study the framework plan and syllabi for this level. The framework for primary education has been approved in March, 2013. The National Curriculum for primary education - preparatory grade and I to IV grades - is structured in seven curricular areas: Language and communication, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Human being and society, Arts, Physical education and sports, Technologies, Counselling and guidance. The number of hours allocated to the subjects in the framework schooling plans is maximum 20 hours/week and for Mathematics and Natural Sciences area are 4 hours/week for preparatory grade and I grade (Mathematics and exploration of environment, a single discipline) and 5 hours/week for II-IV grades (Mathematics and Natural Sciences - two distinct disciplines). European documents in Educational Policies suggest the imperative to grow the scientific knowledge from future citizen and this must begin at a young age. The conclusion that emerges is that the Natural Sciences has too small number of hours and it can improve this with ”sciences through games”.
