Abstract: Working since 1994 in health and medical physics I have witnessed how, unfortunately, we have an ever increasing difficulty in Romania in supplying various employers with medical and health physicists. This comes, in my opinion, from a rather poor cooperation between the universities and the end users, which in turn results to having young graduates with a very reduced knowledge on what lies ahead of them, either in the hospitals (besides a low salary) or the industry. In order to overcome this problem and help the ever increasing needs of qualified staff, both in the medical field and in the health physics field, there are some simple enough steps to be taken to insure the co-operation between the industry and the universities. Several discussions with the colleagues from other companies lead me to believe that all the big companies involved in this field would love to see a medical physics community which is strong and big enough to influence dosimetry and health physics procedures in a good way and thus to pressure towards excellence in their field. There are 3 major steps to be taken on this: proper curricula: no need to re-invent the wheel here, curricula are available from IAEA, ESTRO and EFOMP for both medical and health physics; involve the industry in the formation of the physicist from an early stage: the equipment is ever evolving in all fields and regular technical lectures on various equipment aspects, as well as arranging internships for students in order to help them acquire some experience would help; maintain regular feed-back from the industry to make sure the formation of the students is relevant to the industry needs and thus making sure that employment rate increases and the formation, in itself, becomes more attractive to the prospective students.
