Abstract: We extend the Brown-Bolsterli schematic model of Random Phase Approximation defining a set of shells in the particle-hole excitation space which admits separable two-body interaction. We find that the dispersion relation for normal modes in a quantum system described under this model is a condition of non-zero determinant of a finite matrix. Particular cases with one, two and three shells have analytic solutions. The model is tested on metal clusters where the surface and volume plasmon resonances are obtained in agreement with the experimental data.
