Abstract:
According to numerous and complex studies, cyclonic activity in the Mediterranean basin has a very important role in the notable changes which occur in the weather conditions in all seasons in the Southern and South-Eastern Europe and within the geographical area of our country. It is also well known that there are some Mediterranean cyclones that deviate from their classical trans-Balkan trajectories and once positioned above the Black Sea, they get a retrograde trajectory and as such turn toward North-West. They raise the potential for extreme weather conditions, leading to considerable damages and even loss of life in the Eastern and South-Eastern Romania, caused by abundant rainfall followed most of the times by floods. The aim of this work is an analysis of the weather conditions between 27 and 29 March 2015, when our country has been strongly affected by a retrograde cyclone. Conditions will be highlighted that have determined the generation, and subsequent retrograde movement of the origin Mediterranean cyclone as well as the socio-economic implications of this severe weather event.
