Its biological function can be improved by adjusting the morphological characteristics. In this paper the technique used was Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation (MAPLE) to obtain HA coatings on various substrates (e.g Si and Ti based alloys substrates). The influence on the HA thin films morphology of various solvents or mixtures (e.g., Chloroform) , were studied and associated to laser deposition parameters. In order to obtain the morphological investigations was used the Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Different measurements were made, as contact angle measurements and FTIR measurements which were used for determining the chemical integrity and the wettability of the deposited coatings. Based on the results obtained, the optimal parameters regarding the laser processing and matrix composition were determined. The preliminary results shows that similar bone microstructure can be obtained by mixing matrix characteristics with laser deposition parameters. Keywords: MAPLE, Solvents, Hydroxyapatite (HA).
