Abstract:
Soft condensed matter systems are of major interest, both from scientific and technological point of view. Applications of liquid crystals, polymers and liquid crystalline polymers cover a wide range of domains, from home electronic gadgets to space and military devices. Macroscopic properties of these materials strongly depend on the microscopic properties, especially on the local arrangement and dynamics of the molecules. In the present work, we present the results of several Monte Carlo simulations for investigating director configuration in a nematic liquid crystal cell. Using the Mueller matrix approach, we also simulated the transmission of light through the nematic cell and we calculate the intensity of the transmitted light as a function of temperature, anchor strength and geometry.
