Abstract:
One of the main sources of uncertainty in the Earth’s climate system is represented by clouds, which have a profound influence on the Earth's radiation budget. Although there have been many studies on clouds and their responses to different forcings, a lot of uncertainties remains regarding the numerous feedbacks in which the clouds are involved, fuelled by the divergence in results and lack of confidence regarding the global cloud patterns in observations and GCM’s. Here we present the global low cloud fingerprints of Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and the El Nino Southern Oscillation ( ENSO ), identified true associations with corresponding sea surface temperature (SST) pattern in both reanalysis and observed data extended over the 1984 - 2009 period.
