Abstract: Fuel cells using hydrogen for producing electric energy have evolved more and more in the last decade as the need for alternative energy sources has increased. Different types of fuel cells exist but for small installations and for low power needs proton exchange membranes fuel cells (PEMFC) stand out. These fuel cells use a polymeric membrane as electrolyte, so we can characterize it using positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS). PAS is also a good method of investigating the evolution of the membrane as the fuel cell is in workload.
