Abstract: The goal of this work is to apply optical diagnosis techniques to study changes of transparent glass properties induced by their irradiation with gamma radiation. Specifically we investigated the changes due to the color centers or other defects produced by irradiating borosilicate glasses with gamma rays. Two glass samples were irradiated using the IFIN-HH particle accelerator facility using an average energy of ~5MeV. Radiation range of the above parameters was obtained by nuclear reaction resonance type C (p, γ)C*. By irradiating a given time of a glass in front of which was placed a filter 0.5mm Pb and then irradiating the same time the other glass through a filter of 1 mm thickness are obtained blackened two different densities of the two glasses. From the ratio of the two input values in exponential relationship absorption coefficient determine the absorption mass. Knowing this value, the absorption curves for Pb determine energy gamma radiation resulting from the proposed reaction. The method can also be used to determine the nuclear reaction sections.
