Abstract:
This present master dissertation aims to present a comprehensive and updated description and current status quo of all the layers of Earth’s ionosphere, at a global (in a localized area) scale.Furthermore, this dissertation will also present a full theoretical study of the concentration of electrons from all the layers which lie within the ionosphere. The study of the particles from every component layer will be compared with data taken from a few ionospheric stations around the world. As it is well-known, the ionosphere represents the upper layer of Earth's atmosphere which contains a high concentration of ions and free electrons, making the transition to cosmic space. The discovery of the ionosphere came from radio wave observations, more exactly from the recognition of the fact that only a reflecting layer containing positive ions and electrons could explain the characteristics of the data which has been gathered. The so-called ionosonde was one of the primary and most important research tools used for creating the electron density profiles from the ionosphere.
