Abstract:
Any evaluation process is designed to provide the most accurate measurement of the skills the evaluated subjects possess in a certain field. In particular, the physics curricula educational assessment, which is a compulsory part of the curriculum at the undergraduate level, is no exception. One of the tools the evaluator uses in this process is the test along with its structure unit, the item. This paper analyzes a series of tests administered to middle school students, from a dual perspective: that of the characteristics of the evaluation items used in the assessment process and then, their relevance to the group to which the tests are applied. Data processing was done within the "Item Response Theory" by means of statistical analysis programs that allowed to determine the parameters of items (difficulty and discrimination), raising the characteristic curves and their indicative curves along with the computation/determination of the coefficients indicating the extent to which student responses to these items may be linked to the acquisition of certain skills. Preliminary results showed that the items may also have other characteristics than those intentionally attributed to them by their designer, and this leads to interferences in the results of subjects’ tested ability. It is therefore important and necessary to pre-test and caliber evaluation items through these types of analyses.
