Abstract:
Computer simulations play an important role in providing solutions to many important phenomena in condensed matter physics, providing exact results for problems which would otherwise be soluble only by approximate methods, or might be even insolvable. Condensed matter systems are of major interest, from both pure scientific and applicative point of view. Liquids play an important role in a wide range of domains, from biology to the state of the art technology. In the current work, we present the results of Monte Carlo simulations for a simple liquid. As interacting potential between molecules we used the well-known Lennard-Jones potential and we obtain the equation of state for the liquid in a wide range of temperatures. We also designed our computer simulation software to plot the dynamics of the liquid molecules, in order to obtain a clearer image of the short range order which is characteristic to the liquid state.
