Abstract:
An unmanned air vehicle (UAV) is a remotely piloted vehicle, without on-board human crew, using aerodynamic forces to travel on desired trajectories either guided or self-controlled. The UAV field is constantly expanding both in terms of constructive solutions and in terms of the missions they can fulfill. UAVs are used in military applications but have recently been very much developed in civil applications as well (rescue operations, fire prevention, etc.). The factors involved in building an UAV are: cost, mass, size and flight duration. The most important element of an UAV affecting its mission is the power supply which should have high power and energy density and operate with increased efficiency. The power density has a decisive influence on the aircraft’s speed, flying altitude and loading capacity. This paper describes the procedure for designing an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) powered by an Aeropak hydrogen fuel cell system.
