Abstract:
We report the fabrication of hybrid photovoltaic cells based on biologic and polymeric thin films deposited onto optical glass substrates, by spin-coating. Chlorophyll-a was used as constitutive of the active layer and as buffer layer together with poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly (styrenesulfonate), PEDOT:PSS. Their photovoltaic performances were compared with those obtained for classical structures – glass/ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Chl-a:P3HT:PCBM(10:1:1)/LiF/Al and glass/ITO/Chl-a/PEDOT:PSS/P3HT:PCBM(1:1)/LiF/Al.. Optical investigations were performed for active layers, Chl-a:P3HT:PCBM(10:1:1) and P3HT:PCBM(1:1) in the visible range, at room temperature. Morphological features were analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and showed a good miscibility between the constitutive materials. Electrical and photoelectrical measurements were made in dark and AM 1.5 conditions, at room temperature, too. The action spectra showed an enlargement of the spectral response of samples containing chlorophyll-a as part of the active layer. Parameters characterizing a photovoltaic cell, short circuit current, Isc, open circuit voltage, Voc, and fill factor, FF, were calculated and discussed.
