Abstract:
In this study we have analyzed the variability of climate parameters, temperature (0C) and precipitation (mm) for Iraq related to the geopotential fields. The data used were recorded at 8 stations for temperature, over the period 1971-2010 and 18 stations for precipitation over 1981-2010 period. The geopotential height from pressure levels at 200hPa and 850 hPa were used due to the influence of the Jetstream and atmospheric conditions in Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL), respectively. The analysis have shown temperature graduated from the maximum values in south to the minimum in north but the precipitation distributed by maximum in north and minimum in western south of Iraq. These results emphasized the dependence of temperature and precipitation on orography. To analyze the link between geopotential fields with the temperature and precipitation the correlation maps were used. On these correlation maps can be see that the winter temperature was affected by geopotential heights Z200hPa and Z850hPa more than the temperature of other seasons. In case of the spring precipitation the both geopotential heights influenced more than in winter seasons. Generally, the geopotential (Z850hPa) had influenced in Iraq climate less than (Z200hPa).
