Abstract:
The study of low energy (≲ 10 MeV) electronic antineutrinos is an active and multidisciplinary field of research. The next generation of large underground neutrino detectors used to study neutrino oscillations is affected by the presence of nuclear reactors and in the same time is influenced by the continuous emission of geo-neutrinos from from U, Th and 40K decays in the Earth. In this talk the effects of antineutrinos from reactors operating in the world as well as of geo-neutrinos are discussed, and based on this we estimate that their contribution to background in the next long baseline oscillations experiments is essential. The calculations are done for possible sites.
