Abstract:
Plasma treatment of polymer thin films offers a method of modifying their properties after the deposition. The reflex plasma reactor is a unique reactor design that combines a geometric confinement of the plasma by using two parallel-plane cathodes and a ring shaped anode with the magnetic field of a Penning trap. By the use of these methods, the plasma has a high density of electrons bouncing between the two cathodes. In this work, we present the deposition of PMMA on ITO glass by means of spin coating and treatment in the reflex plasma reactor in a N2 rich atmosphere. After the treatment, visual modifications of the polymer film can be observed. Contact angle shows a super-hydrophilicity modification of the thin film. SEM images were performed in order to see the morphological modification of the deposition. The thin films obtained were used in creating liquid crystal cells and the response time was measured.
