Abstract:
The present study refers to works made during the Romanian avant-garde on wood or plywood, canvas, and paper media and evaluation of the specific types of degradations and their causes. These works were sometimes painted on fragile or poor quality media. Also, improper storage conditions of the private collections, inadequate transportation from one collection to another, handling the works without gloves have all contributed to the deterioration of the paint layer. Concerning the works studied, the effects of degradation on the paintings are discussed, with emphasis on the specific methodology of conservation and restoration, analyzing the differences of methodological approaches due to the technics specific to the works.
