Abstract:
The Cold-Conveyor-Belt Jet (CCB) and the Sting Jet associated to a Shapiro-Keyser cyclone can produce to surface strong and damaging wind gusts. This two types of jet have different mechanisms of appearance, trajectories and duration in time. The present study investigates the existence of the correlation between Cold-Conveyor-Belt Jet, Sting Jet and the strong wind gust recorded. This analysis was applied for the Mediterranean cyclone case in 2-3 December 2012, which affected the meteorological weather stations from Southeastern Romania, stations administrated by National Meteorological Administration. The phenomena undergoes all four stages of evolution of Shapiro-Keyser conceptual model [1]. In our analysis the radar products from Medgidia S-band Doppler radar, satellite images, outputs of mesoscale numerical weather prediction model - WRF and data recorded at 5 meteorological weather stations that were in the CCB Jet’s and Sting Jet’s influenced area were used. The analysis led to conclusion that recorded wind gust were at the beginning due to a secondary cold front, then to Sting Jet and then to Cold-Conveyor-Belt Jet.
