Abstract:
An efficient method for the theoretical investigation of optical properties of large semiconductor quantum dots heterostructures is introduced within the multi-band k.p approach, which can take advantage of the high point-group symmetry of the system. Heteroepitaxial strain and the excitonic effect are included in the calculation of energy levels, envelope functions, exciton binding energy, and linear absorption coefficient. The numerical code we developed is applied to type II zinc-blende ZnTe/ZnSe core-shell quantum dots. A good agreement of the absorption coefficient with the experiment is obtained.
