Abstract:
A series of sintered superconducting MgB2 samples were submitted to proton fluxes of energy between 8.6 and 13. 2 MeV and fluences in the range 2 1016-30 1016 protons cm-2 in a Cyclotron TR 19 accelerator. The variation of the critical temperature is only Delta(Tc) = -0.6 K, but more important effects are noticeable on the critical current density which shows a substantial improvement, mainly at high applied fields. The field dependence of the pinning energy, as obtained from relaxation measurements, is also presented. As a drawback of the irradiation, the flux jumps extend up to temperatures higher than 20 K.
