Abstract:
Starting from a free open-source JavaScript software, that used as data input meteorological parameters with very poor spatial resolution, a downscaling was made, for both the meteorological parameters as well for the topography. The initial dataset belonged to the Global Forecasting System (GFS), a global numerical model with 1° spatial resolution, in which Romania could hardly be seen. A fully meteorological parameters visualization software can be of real help for the forecasters from the entire world, due to its usefulness consisting in weather monitoring and furthermore in making short term forecasts. The dataset, which contains gridded values of various meteorological parameters, was provided from the local model ALARO. It has very good spatial (6.5km) and temporal (1h) resolution over Romania. The new visualization system is versatile and fully customizable. In addition to the meteorological parameters from the deterministic model, one could insert additional fields like meteorological satellite imagery, weather radar data, as well as parameters from multiple weather models or different topography aspects like cities, rivers and roads.
