Abstract:
By electrical point of view, deposition of a polymer on an electrode of a classical liquid crystal cell creates an asymmetrical nematic liquid crystal cell. The polymer layer may be placed by various methods such as spin-coating, spraying or deposition in plasma. In this work, we present the behavior of an asymmetric nematic liquid crystal cell obtained by plasma deposition, where a special electrical behavior has been highlighted: the cell loaded at a continuous voltage has a discharge current which, after a time of 10-15 seconds, has a significant increase. We found that the time value is related to the thickness of the polymer layer and the occurrence of this effect was explained by the manifestation of the effects of the polymer-liquid crystal interface.
